Week 2 in Review

At this time, two weeks ago... I began "pushing" little Miles out into the world! So in 23 more minutes he will be 2 weeks old! He had his 2 week check-up today and it went well. Our little man is one healthy baby. He has the occasional, and often intense, gas pains. He got his first prescription for gas drops last week. I guess he's going to have a tummy like his daddy :( One thing his daddy did NOT want him to inherit from him.
Miles is quite popular. He has numerous visitors, and when Brent and I go in public the first question asked is "Where is the baby!?" He got to meet his Aunt Whitney and Aunt Lulu this past weekend. They are smitten as we all are with him. They were even so sweet to allow me and Brent to get out of the house for a dinner date. It was nice to have a little break. I wondered how I would do leaving him with someone for the first time, and I have  you know that I did good. I didn't even call to check on him! (Besides we were only gone an hour!) I knew Aunt Whit and Aunt Lu were completely capable. It makes me wish they lived closer. I enjoyed their company so much! Having a baby has made me so homesick for my sister!

4 Generations of Roberts Men.

Week 1

Week one has flown by! Everyone asks me the same questions over and over... So I thought I'd answer a few of those here in this blog!

Upon bringing Miles home from the hospital we had every intention of me breastfeeding Miles. It turns out that after our appointment with the lactation nurse that I am not producing any milk. :( I know I felt so defeated. He was born at 8.9, discharged at 8.2, and went down to 7.7 before our appointment with the lactation nurse! I had my heart set on nursing him. So we had to supplement with formula, losing 13% of his body weight was not cool! Poor thing, we thought he had gas. Nope, he was just hungry! We went to Enfamil and it has been too rough on his tummy, so now we're giving him Similiac Sensitive. (I think he has a week tummy like his daddy.) It seems to be helping.

I am learning all his cries. I find myself getting very annoyed when people tell me what to do with him (he needs to be burped, he needs to be fed, etc.)! It may be hormones, but I am excited to learn, with Brent, what works for us and for Miles. I don't mind my friends throwing helpful suggestions out there, in fact some of those have been very encouraging! Thankfully, most of my friends understand that what worked for them may or may not work for me!

We have been overwhelmed by visitors and friends bringing us dinner! We haven't had to lift a finger to cook. We appreciate that so much because it gives us more time to sit and love on this little bundle of joy! My friend Leah asked me today, How much did your life just change over the past week, It made me stop and ponder that! Oh my, our lives have changed so much, and in some ways that I can't even recognize just yet!

Labor was one of the hardest things I've ever done, but it was worth every single second. Brent and I have been in awe of the miracle of life! I don't know how people can give birth and not believe in God and all his awesomeness! Miles is a bundle of God's grace. Everytime I look at his little tiny features I am overwhelmed by God's love for us. We prayed for this child for a long time, and now he's here... In God's perfect timing!!!

It's almost time!

We had our last OB visit yesterday! Miles will be here Monday at the latest! We will go in Monday morning around 5:30 a.m. I can start an epidural before the doctor even gets there at 9:00. Then he'll break my water and hopefully we'll be holding our little man by lunch time! I was dilated to almost 4 cm yesterday. So we are very hopeful that this will be a short labor process. He could still come between now and then on his own, but at this point I believe he's holding on until Monday. Our doctor has tickets to see the final day of the Masters (i.e. Sunday) so I hope that Miles doesn't decided to be contrary!

I am trying to balance all the emotions that are flooding me. I'm so tired that I'm sure my excitement isn't apparent on the outside, but I am VERY excited! I can hardly stand it, 4 days left! My parents and sister and brother-in-law are all making their arrangements to be here on Monday! :) Hopefully, one of them will get me a cheeseburger from Phillips Grocery, that way I have something to hold in my hand while they are passing around my little baby! HA! Hey, with gestational diabetes you make sacrifices, and burgers have been one of them.

Last night, Brent and I got the video monitor up in Miles room! Our bags have been packed for the past 3 weeks, and I just can't think of much that is left to do...besides doing a little last minute straightening of my house! I do need to make sure I have the book to do hand and footprints at the hospital, and a guestbook for people to sign! I guess I need to quit blogging and make myself a checklist! Wish us luck, and send up lots of prayers for us over the next 4 days, as our lives are about to change dramatically!!!! :)

ONE WEEK!!!!

7 days left! If Miles doesn't decide to come on out this week, he will be coming next Monday! As time is nearing closer my anxieties are growing, questions are flooding my mind, who, what, when, where, how! And, special thanks to all those people who have shared their labor "horror" stories, and the ones who have told me how big my baby is going to be! Errr... (Note sarcasm here!) With absolutely NO idea of what to expect I am just trying to keep my mind clear! I'm only focused on getting a healthy little boy into my arms safely! We go back to the doctor on Wednesday, our last OB visit. I'll update you all then!
